The Lusitano horse, a Baroque-type breed originating in Portugal, boasts a rich history dating back centuries, with roots in the Iberian Peninsula and a legacy as a warhorse, bullfighting mount, and dressage horse.
The Lusitano is a Baroque type of horse, characterized by its elegance, agility, and powerful build, reflecting the ideals of the 16th and 17th centuries. The Lusitano, also known as the Pure Blood Lusitano or PSL, is a Portuguese horse breed. Horses were known to be present on the Iberian Peninsula as far back as 20,000 BC, and by 800 BC the region was renowned for its war horses.
The breed's intelligence, courage, and docility make them well-suited for dressage and equestrian art, which is still practiced today.
